Alan Chambers. Amazing survivalist and speaker.

Alan planned, prepared and led the first successful British unsupported walk to the Geographical North Pole from Canada. After immense setbacks, the loss of two team members and extreme frostbite and hunger, the walk on the ice lasted a gruelling seventy days. Faced with near starvation and dwindling fuel supply the team covered 500 miles against the worst polar weather in twenty years. Even though two team members fell through the ice and went blind due to a three week blizzard, they managed to raise the Union Flag on top of the world at 23:16hrs 16th May 2000.

I don’t do this enough, nor do I take it serious enough. We need to embrace it individually, as well as socially. We like to think we do it collaboratively during timed meetings with agendas, but sometimes it’s best to grab one other person and take a walk. For some alone time - pack your lunch and go to the nearest park. If it’s cold outside, head to any quasi-quiet establishment with a bar - coffee bar preferable! Me, sometimes I just take some solitude at Fred’s Breakfast - with a side of freshly squeezed OJ.

No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

Tilt is a Firefox extension that lets you visualize any web page DOM tree in 3D. It is being developed by Victor Porof (3D developer responsible with the Firefox extension itself), along with Cedric Vivier (creating a WebGL optimized equivalent to the privileged canvas.drawWindow, see #653656) and Rob Campbell (who first thought about creating a 3D visualization of a webpage). Everything started initially as a Google Summer of Code project, but now, with an enthusiastic team behind it and so many new features and ideas, it has become an active Developer Tools project.
